App of the Week for November 27th: Wimp
Price: Free
This is the perfect app if you enjoy utilizing videos as a tool for teaching. This app will also let you, as a digital immigrant, keep up with those digital natives.
Wimp is an app that was developed to give easy iPad access to the website, www.wimp.com. You download the app and every day you have five new viral videos at your finger tips.
The examples posted below are linked to videos at the website for convenience, but I found them on my iPad using the app.
Want to motivate kids to do their homework? Have them take a look at this video where homework becomes practical: http://www.wimp.com/customflavors/.
On a more serious note, teach inferences using these videos:
Stay Awake
Dog Difference
Too Late
Main idea and detail:
Kindness Act
Great Dad
or pretty much any other video.
Chronological Order:
Pre-shaken Soda
or any other how to video.
Compare and Contrast:
Strongest Insects
Here are a few apps to help the history teacher:
City Walls
Present Day
Not to forget science:
Electricity-Tesla
Demonstrates Cannon
Sundial
And Math:
Mindhexaflexagon
Even ideas for Digicom:
Halloween Math
Teachers Dancing
I could continue, but you can see where I am going with this. Download this app and take 5-10 minutes of your day and see what you can use!
