eBackpack
eBackpack: Paperless workflow. Assign, share, collaborate, collect, and review assignments.
Cost: Both Free and Paid models
eBackpack is just what its title says.It is an electronic backpack yet so much more. For me as the teacher, it is a place where I can gather assignments before handing them out to students. For a student to get the assignment, all they do is to sign into their eBackpack account and they can work on the assignment right in ebackpack. This works especially well on the iPad where students can annotate or type on almost any file. The student also has the option to download the assignment and open it in Word, Pages, Powerpoint, or Keynote. Once the assignment is completed on the iPad in Pages for example. To submit it, all a student does is select open in another app and it is easily submitted back into eBackpack. From there, it can be graded by the teacher and the student can save a copy of the assignment to their portfolio. When I go into a parent meeting, I have in front of me a copy of every assignment that the student has or hasn’t done to that point in time. eBackpack is a powerful tool to be able to share student work with parents in real time.
eBackpack works not only on iOS devices but it also works with computers be it Windows, Mac, Chrome or almost any other device. To turn in work all the student needs to do is log into eBackpack, then snap a photo of the assignment and it is done. I encourage the student to turn in the assignment the night before by offering a 10% early bonus. This works with almost any of the newer phones.
To me as a teacher the real power of this is that it is incredibly easy to grade student work using ebackpack. When I sign in to my ebackpack account the home screen shows me the work that I still need to grade. I can type in comments assign a letter grade, or annotate easily on top of any assignment. The beauty of this is that that morning trek to the copy machine has now been eliminated. I have not made a copy of handouts for almost six weeks. That huge pile of work I use to lug home every night now fits comfortably on my iPad.
As for cost, ebackpack as a 14 day trial, and a free version, but to really see its power I had upgraded to the “Teacher Plan” that costs $99 per year. Check out the plans below
