Documents by Readdle
When you work in a school with a classroom of students sharing iPads, file management becomes a HUGE issue. Ever since we got the iPads we have been looking for the best way to save and share files. The question keeps being asked, "What is the best and most efficient way to get digital work to students and get digital work from students?" Clearly we need drop off and pick up folders on a network that will work between applications.
Enter a new version of the Documents by Readdle app to save the day! Just released in January 2013, the latest Documents by Readdle is an elegant answer.
Unlike many document file management systems, this great FREE app lets you move beyond storing and sharing your files in the cloud. It is compatible with any file type you can imagine - from docs, ebooks, and web pages to zip files, picture files, and movies. You can read, view, listen, watch, store, annotate and SHARE all file types with a variety of networked systems with just a couple of taps! You can even protect your files with a password if you choose.
Oh, and did I mention SHARING! Sorry. It is just that this feature has me stoked because you can easily sync your files with iCloud, DropBox, GoogleDrive, Gaggle, Notes, Edmodo, join.me, Big Campus, Evernote, GoDocs, Box, PDF Expert, Whiteboard, Skitch, SketchBookX, iMovie...I could go on and on, but you get the idea.
Documents is even compatible with WebDav servers so you can share ANY of your or the students' files on the district's network. File folder structures can be set up using the WebDav server so your students can easily drop their work in your file folder and pick up their work in their own file folder. Just ask your IT Department about the status of setting up the WebDav server at your site.
